Living Hope Community Church

the truth will set you free

I drive from Amsterdam to Living Hope every Sunday, which is about 30 miles away, because of my desire for truth. In life, accuracy matters. Let’s say you are building a two story house. That second floor has to rest against the beam going across the floor boards. If it’s off just a quarter of an inch that second floor is going to come down on you. In life you have, especial when it comes to the big issues, you have to be accurate so things work right. Living Hope teaches the bible accurately. I go there no because I like the people, whom I do like, but the word draws me there.

It says in God’s word, “my people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge.” When I was a young man I heard that and realized that here is all this great information in the bible and so many others go about to teach it but do not let the word speak for itself. They add to it or take out of it or just make up stuff that’s not in the word of God. Who do you really want to please? I want to know God I want to know what he says, when he says it, how he says it, and what he wants me to do. That’s the whole heart of the matter.

Jesus talks about building your house on a good foundation. He teaches about the wise man who built his house on the rock. The storm came and his house survived. However, the foolish man built his house on the sand so when the storm came, the house did not survive. Jesus Christ is our foundation. He is the rock and we have to go through him to get to the Father. That’s what I love that we endeavor to do at our ministry—we endeavor to teach God’s word and let the word speak for itself.

I know I can trust the bible. God knew the heart of men he inspired. They were all basically his secretaries and they spoke for God because God could look in their heart. That didn’t make them perfect and that doesn’t mean they didn’t make any mistakes or anything of that nature, but the point is when it came to his word he could trust them and they would write down what he told them. Before I started really trusting the bible and got saved I was allergic to fish. If I was in the same room with fish, I would start scratching. God delivered me from this. Suddenly I could eat fish. In fact, I could eat any seafood. He immediately took that away from me. That’s the power of God manifested in my life through the spiritual power of his word. It opens the door to be more then conqueror in this life and in the life to come.

So again Jesus stressed that the road to God is narrow but the path to destruction is a big wide road, the worldly road. That straight and narrow road is the one we want stay on—the road to Jesus. So that’s why I come and if I knew some other church down the road was teaching more accurately, I would go to that place.

Growing up I participated in a lot of crazy and sinful activities. God has led me away from all that crap and all that garbage and my life is really blessed today. I give to the work of God. When I first heard of giving ten percent, I couldn’t do that, but I made a promise to God that I would start off at a certain place and I would go higher and higher as I was able. Since then, over many years, God has really blessed me back. I want to know God, I want to please God. It doesn’t make my life perfect it doesn’t mean I don’t make mistakes, but I want to be closer and more loving and forgiving because I want to do it his way not my way.
